The ranch was established in 1909 by John Willis Johnson, also known as on of the only sheriffs to not carry a gun and contributing founder of San Angelo National Bank. The Door Key Ranch was comprised of 90,000 acres in Tom Green and surrounding counties. It was one of the largest ranches on the Texas Frontier in the early 1900's. This historic ranch has been well improved and would be an asset to any cattle operation.
The Christoval Ranch is located approximately 1 mile southeast of Christoval and 20 miles south of San Angelo providing the conveniences of local restaurants, shopping, hospitals and Mathis Field Airport.

There is a good cover of native grasses including Bluestem, Buffalo grass, Rescue grass, Brome grass, Curly mesquite and various grammas. There are numerous large live oak with mesquite and cedar. There is an ample supply of water with 2 solar pumps, 1 submersible pump and 9 windmills, all with respective reservoirs. There are several miles of wet-weather creeks that run through the ranch.
The Christoval Ranch has first-rate Texas Hill Country hunting. The ranch has been hunted lightly in the past and has excellent numbers of White tail deer, Turkey, Black Buck antelope, Dove and Quail.
There have been numerous improvements to the ranch with a new tack room, well house and set of steel pens with hydraulic chute, steel covered working area and loading chute.
